Conversation #001 - Collective Cares

Recording of the first conversation event of Collective Cares, held on 10th December.

Co-leads Luyando Muleya and Naoko Mabon were joined by a growing network of peers: Chibuye Changwe; Kabila Stéphane; Lifang Zhang; Samba Yonga; and Sana Ginwalla. The audience members included Max Diallo Jakobsen who is the artist-in-resident at Lusaka Contemporary Art Center then. Thank you everyone for joining and contributing.

As well as many stimulating thoughts and ideas, there were crucial questions posed:

“What are other geographies that are not applying more in Zambia? Are there possibilities of activating them, in connection with other geographies such as the Great Lakes, the Congo, Namibia, Zimbabwe, South Africa?” - Kabila Stéphane

“How exactly is it that artists’ practice can be cultivated or how exactly is it that curators could particularly play a role in the cultivation?” - Chibuye Changwe

“Who are you doing this for? How authentic is it, if there is no clarity around the who, the what, and the why?” - Samba Yonga

“We have brilliant writers in Lusaka. But where do these thoughts go? Where do these really wonderful critiques go? How do we incentivise?” - Sana Ginwalla
